Hindutva, or Hindu Nationalism, is a far-right political ideology that seeks to establish India as a Hindu-only nation, marginalizing religious minorities, particularly Muslims and Christians. This ideology has found roots within South Asian diaspora communities worldwide, including in Maryland. It has fueled Islamophobia, xenophobia, and ethnic nationalism in political and public policy spaces.
Hindu Nationalists are responsible for rampant violence against Christians, Sikhs, Dalits and Muslims across India, as well as the brutal assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in the aftermath of the Partition of India by Great Britain in 1947.
